Charlotte Prep, in conjunction with the Charlotte Arts and Science Council, is pleased to announce the two-day residency of children’s book author Kelly Starling Lyons.
On February 25 and 26, Mrs. Lyons will interact with all classes in the Lower School including two writing sessions in each second, third, and fourth-grade class. Our young writers will learn how to infuse their work with heart, meaning, cohesion, and sensory detail as well as strengthening and polishing their narratives using constructive feedback from peers during their time with Mrs. Lyons. A celebration of writing is also planned for her second day with us.
Mrs. Lyons will also provide professional development to all Prep teachers focusing on diversity in children’s literature.
Kelly Starling Lyons is the award-winning author of many children’s books including One Million Men and Me, One More Dino on the Floor, Teacakes for Tosh, and the popular Jada Jones series, which has been recognized for its celebration of friendship, character, and STEAM connections. She lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, and travels around the country as a teaching artist.
